Used to be so good

Okay just want to air my frustration a little bit regarding this show, also
no, I did not read the comics
so don't hate on me for that.
Arrow was an awesome show in it's early seasons, and I don't typically like superhero movies/shows. However I find the show now to be unwatchable. I stopped watching altogether probably midway through the season Damian Dark was the main antagonist.
(The other night I stumbled upon the Arrow/Flash/Super girl cross over and it brought up all my bitter feelings about the downfall of Arrow)
As soon as magic was introduced I was just like..nope. I stuck with it for a few more episodes but found myself bored and not paying attention. I no longer cared about the characters.
I think the show was better in it's early seasons because it was the only DC Comic show on the CW, it could do its own thing and stand alone; it didn't have to cross-over with The Flash (and now Supergirl) which in my opinion brings down the maturity level. I liked old Arrow because it wasi don't know, grittier? It was serious and more believable.
Now it's like ooo magic! they can literally dig up someone who's been dead for months and after a short rough patch they're back and healthy as ever! Oliver and Felicity were "retired" from vigilante -ing? and about to be married but then Felicity was just like "..nah." Oh and she was handicapped for what like a whole two episodes but then a special micro chip makes her good as new! Like NO that does NOT happen! Also that freaking Bee villian, oi.
I liked Felicity as a minor/recurring character, not a main character. I couldn't care less about her subplots.
I feel like the writers are just making stuff up as they go, and like I pointed out above, I didn't ever read the comics so I don't know what's original DC content and what was created by the CW, my point isthe first couple seasons were a solid 9/10 and now it makes me cringe.
Anyone else feel the same? -

If you've followed the discussions on this board, you'll know that lots of people agree with you! I've kind of accepted the thought that "Arrow" will never be as good as it was in the first two seasons, much for the same reasons as you gave (loss of the "grounded" feel, shipper pandering etc.).Having said this, I still think that season five is more watchable than season fourthere are no Donna Smoak antics to make me cringe with second-hand embarrassment, no love dramas, no miraculous recoveries, no mumbo jumbo magic and mysticism etc. It's not great television by any stretch of the imagination, but I'm still invested enough in the characters to continue watching to see what will happen next.and the 100th episode was the best "Arrow" episode in quite a while. -

Dont like dont watch. Yes it was very nolan like but in the end its a comic book based show. Things were bound to get less realistic especially with flash being a hit. They were just in Space fighting aliens. The arrow you liked is not coming back. Season 5 is pretty damn good. All i need is good episodes.

My friend allow me to assure you that you are not alone.
I as well have been extremely disappointed with Arrow and miss the good old days of seasons 1 and 2.
The show for me lost all quality when they had Oliver survive his first fight with Ras. After that Felicity became the main character, Ras was written exactly as he is in the comics and cartoons [meaning a guy obsessed with finding a replacement] and that ruined his character [they could have made him a force to be reckoned with with a new story and motive]. Then we got magic and now we have the LAME TEAM. Speaking of them. In this weeks episode once again Wilddgo disobeyed orders. That must have been the 100th time. And he is still in. The writters clearly think the audience is comprised of mindless 3 years old. Cartoons like Young Justice,X-Men Tas,Spider-Man TAS had infinite times better story and characters. And they were more serious and mature than the current Arrow.
So i agree with you.
