Barry was taking on the bad guys and doing heroic stuff without training. Barry was taking on the Weather Wizard with 0 experience and he was slower than Wally is.
Barry doesn't even test his powers, he waits for others to tell him about stuff he can do. Throw Lightning - Zoom. Vibrate threw walls - Eobard.
Iris and Joe are overprotective and instead of cultivating Wally's desire to do good and save people (he's twice saved Barry and now Oliver) they want to wrap him in bubble wrap. He's a grown man, best prepare him for what he's going to do anyway.

Barry was smart enough to realize that this isn't a game and he had to be serious.
Wally acts like he's a kid in a candy store. He's not ready. He needs to curb that attitude and act mature.

Wally is a little reckless, that's too be expected at his age. So was Joe by his own admission. Yet, he still got trained and went on to protect people. The same thing Wally wants, but they want to deny him because he's different somehow.
The West family is overprotective, I like it, but this is not on wally.

I've always wondered this? Barry and Iris are only 26. If Wally is 21, then why do they treat him like a child? I know that his name is kidflash, but they don't have to treat him as such.
Also, if Wally is 21, how old is Jessie? Isn't she like under 18? -

Exactly! Jefferson is about 21 himself (storyline shows that he was on the HS football team when the particle accelerator exploded) and Thea can't be that much older then either of them as she was in HS when Arrow started.

he has so many flaws.. could we NOT count "happy to have awesome powers" as one?
all the characters in this show do the same things when getting powers "oh my god no im a monster, better hide my powers" or "muhahahahaha powers, now i can rape babies and eat my ice cream without caring about making a mess".. thats bull
anyone on earth, our real world earth, would react the same as wally when suddenly waking up with speed force powers. absolute glee and a rush to try out these powers.
the decision for either good or evil use of the powers comes later. -

Coupled with the fact that he's so adamant to accompany Barry on his adventures against the better judgment of his father or sister?
Or that in this last episode, being faster than Barry made him say, "I'm better than Barry"..
