"LOL. But do we know who built it? Scratch that, it was a CAVE! LOL I mean, do we know who put all the gadgets in? Who built the lift? Or bat pole, if you will."
This is not that important, once you know that Bruce Wayne is a billionaire then it becomes irrelevant who built the cave. We know he has the money he could have hired Santa's elves to build it for all I care. But Barry is not rich at least not that we know of, because the idiot writers couldn't be bothered to explain "minutiae" such as how people make a living.
Even superman had a job and an apartment.

It's not the ownership but the funding of Star Labs people are bringing up because how it's funded, why Cisco & Caitlyn no longer need jobs has never been explained, as for the Batcave who says Bruce & Alfred didn't build it themselves? or bring in people blindfolded to do so, atleast with the Batcave it's easy to gather Bruce Wayne has the money to do pretty much do anything he feels/needs this isn't the case with Star labs, hell it's not the case with Barry's nutritional requirements he needs to consume atleast 10 times that of a normal person which alone should bankrupt him.
You can assume easy enough ways Barry can afford things but then when they then combine things like him needing to crash with Cisco as he looks for a new place, which is odd because why did he move out before finding a place? why doesn't he just crash at Star Labs? why not stay in a hotel? like they want it both ways, Barry can afford to pay Cisco & Caitlyn as well as run Star Labs and all their tech but he cant afford to splash out on a temporary residence instead is bunking with the guy whose brother he feels like he just killed, it's weird and silly, like most of this type of stuff is on all these shows tbh.

            1. Every day, Barry runs in Star Labs on the (cosmic) treadmill or the speed lab. This kinetic energy is then used to power turbines built in Star labs. It's basically like in a hydroelectric power plant, wherein water is dropped from a massive height and the resultant kinetic energy is used to power turbines and thus generate electricity. OR
            2. Barry throws lightning at star labs power supply which then absorbs the electricity and generates energy.
The Flash is basically like a living source of energy.

Doesn't he need to eat to generate all this fantastic energy? His food bill alone would bankrupt most people.

That's some good stuff right there. I would even accept that as an explanation and over look some of the other stuff like feeding the prisoners. And Barrys own personal food bill. Im evrn willing to overlook Cisco and Caitlin's wages. But Star Labs profits needs to be explained somewhere in a 22 episode season.

It's never explained. We know what SL was in S1.
                  Clark's destiny =
                  Superman
                  ,
                  LL
                  &
                  LL

                    Like most logistical issues on
                    The Flash
, the funding of S.T.A.R. Labs is unclear. The best answer I have comes from my knowledge of DC and conjecture.
S.T.A.R. Labs is an international chain of research facilities with 20-30 locations worldwide, many of which specialize in certain scientific and technological fields. I presume the facility in Central City, Missouri, has a generous budget paid by some sort of corporate S.T.A.R. Labs.
Where would corporate get its money? The most likely (non-fantastical) primary source is from (assumed) patents generated by the company's facilities. Those patents could either be licensed out or used to internally manufacture goods/provide services, amounting to a hi-tech patent portfolio potentially worth hundreds of millions annually. The salaries of Cisco and Caitlin would be a drop in the bucket. Adding operational expenses would fill that bucket quite a bit higher, but the show's unlikely to explore that. Realism isn't its thing, nor is attention to detail.
Also worth noting, S.T.A.R. Labs was founded to be independent of government and outside business interests, so it's doubtful that much, if any, funding comes from those sources. (The show, however, seemed to test this principle with Grodd's story, which involved a collaboration b/t Army General Wade Eiling and S.T.A.R. Labs.)

Well, we know for sure they have government contracts: US military and the Central City municipality. They've conducted experiments and research, supplied weapons and protective gear, and they're housing metahumans - even if it's only temporary.
Some have such a low esteem they create reasons to hate everyone else.

We also know that Star Labs has its own satellite.
I remember from a old episode of Leverage that renting time on satellites was insanely expensive.
So renting out the Star Lab Sat would potentially generate a lot of cash.

That is speculation, the audience shouldn't have to fill in the holes. It's not Columbo we are not trying to figure out who did it. A simple explanation is all it takes.

There are loads of stuff that they don't explain!!
I personally can't get past whether the meta cells have en-suite facilities??
                            OR
Do they have Big Belly Burgers on speed dial to feed them all??

The amount of food Barry needs to run fast he might as well be living at big belly burger.
