The two English thugs working for Red Claw who chased Alfred in The Lion and the Unicorn were named Bert and Ernie. I thought that was funny.

Or they could be named from 2 characters from Its a Wonderful Life. Bert the policeman and Ernie the cab driver.

It's a wonderful life is the more likely reference given that movie was also given as Bruce's favorite Christmas movie

I don't think I ever saw that episode. I remember there were character named Bert and Ernie in It's A Wonderful Life but it was only a coincidence that they had the same names as the Sesame Street characters.
