I don't like the message this show is sending

Jimmy's parents were gunned down in front of him when he was a child in a dark alley too, forever scaring him emotionally and setting him on a lifelong path of bringing criminals to justice and protecting those the police/government can't/won't stand up for?
Huh must have missed that issue. -

He hasn't ended his life as James Olsen, so he's still able to help people that way, but now he can help people as Gaurdian as well, In a way James Olsen simply can't.
More than that though, I understand where he's coming from, and see how an ordinary career path wouldn't feel ambitious enough, at least when your best friend is Superman. -

Great points. I agree.

WELCOME to the DC TV UNIVERSE. All the current DC shows at the moment send the exact same message.
I agree that it is annoying and very unfair. Not to mention that it promotes chaos since it shows that all law enforcement agencies are punching bags for the villains. -

I kind of agree. I thought it was unfortunate that they felt the need to make Jimmy a guy who punches things rather than a guy who uses his camera to make the world a better place.
Unless Alpert's covered in bacon grease, I don't think Hugo can track anything. -

Well this has happened before with Jimmy either getting superpower or trying to be like a batman type char.. sort of. If SuperGirl writers stay true to form it never goes over well for him and something bad happens. -

he wants to endanger his life doing a job the DEO and Supergirl can do more effectively
But they weren't stopping the bad guys James is. The E stands for Extra-Normal. James is fighting regular humans for the most part.
