The global warming stuff felt really out of place. Everything else seemed tied to the central theme and paralleling these characters with each other, but none of the climate change discussion felt like it belonged in the same episode with all that.

If they made it more of a personal vengeance and less of a greater-good type thing, it probably would have resonated better with the audience. Supergirl's idealised world isn't all that easy to digest, because not all people in real life have an independent reason for being so angry/wanting to hurt someone. I agree with you, unfortunately. The writing was still pretty decent though apart from that

I'm trying to remember but did Supergirl and other characters actually discuss global warming , or was it all basically the one dude who ended up infected?
Did the show really subtly suggest a message that saving the environment is critical and global warming is real , or did it actually just have a character become a crazy monster spouting about it? -

I like that the bad guy is someone obsessed with stopping global warming instead of some industrial fatcat trying to pollute and kill the Earth like in an episode of Captain Planet. It was very much like the film Kingsman: The Secret Service where the bad guy was obsessed with stopping overpopulation.
