It's learned the Channing Tatum Gambit movie is going into active development.

Gambit was "relevant" well into the 2000's.(They started to not write him very well at that point though) The movies emphasis on Wolverine left Gambit out of the movies and since the comics began to emulate the films at that time Gambit took a back seat. Gambit will always be one of the "cool" X-Men. They just need to do something with him.
I hope this is true as I feel like I've been waiting forever for the Gambit movie.

I take it they couldn't find a charming Cajun out of the thousands of actors roaming Louisiana?
Is it really so logistically hard to just get someone with the actual accent? Channing Tatum is a mediocre actor and is too exposed to bury his persona in the role.
It's mind boggling that they can't just get unknown actors from the local area.

Yeah, Gambit at this point just seems so random to even bother with as you would think they would've kept the character around in the franchise in small doses to lead up to his solo film.
When there's no more room in Hollywood, remakes shall walk the Earth. -

The writer of the 2000s Mike Carey fell in love with Magneto. Gambit was pushed aside for Magneto and Rogue to get together. I always felt Marvel never liked the character. Claremont and Fabian Nicieza were the only writers who seemed to like the character.
