Thanks for pointing that out, I guess I didn't notice the Smart Phones but I was starting to wonder if this was the 80's or early 90's since Odin has a Commodore 64 on his office desk. Perhaps he just has a sentimental attachment to it.

The poster was suggesting that on our timeline these would have to be events that are yet to pass hence the "near future" idea. That would be correct, assuming that the show is working on our timeline.
Of course, it's also at least as likely that the show isn't exactly our timeline and is an alternate timeline but yes, it was a joke. Thanks for explaining that?

Whatever the case, thanks again for letting us all know that the Cruise thing was a joke and not historically accurate. I think it was so confusing to so many of us because it looked like actual news footage these shows should really be more careful!
