Part of the appeal of moving to the CW was the possibility of a shared universe.
Didn't the show runner already say there were no plans to combine the universes? I mean if you think about it, in the long run (if there is one) it would cross overs more special. Otherwise people would start griping "But if this massive world threat is happening, why didn't Supergirl/Superman just fly in and stop it?" -

The only appeal of moving the show is that it will almost certainly stay on the air longer on CW than it would have on CBS.

I think but could be wrong that Supergirl is earth three only because I saw it in the synopsis of the crossover episode.

No , Supergirl's earth is third world discover by Barry ,not Earth 3
Because Barry never told anyone about Supergirl's world , and Jay Garrick already claim the "Earth 3 " name for his Earth.
Now they discover over a few dozen Earth .
They are not going to re-label every Earth again , if and When Barry met Supergirl again , the Flash team will just label Supergirl's Earth as Earth number ( a number over 20 or something ) -

And? Just because they have a cross over doesn't mean the universes will combine Both Vibe and Flash have the ability to go to other universes as well as bring others to their own. -

The Invasion is about the Dominators (aliens) trying to take over earth as a whole. This in addition to the LoT thannagarians puts aliens in the earth 1 universe.
On supergirl earth aliens only are now fully public knowledge because of fort roz, the kryptonians (including the superman and girl) as a whole and the president putting out the integretation laws -

it is also possible, that there is a power girl on earth 1. when they initially did the flash/supergirl crossover, one potential idea for a follow-up was that in another crossover was that Melissa Benoist might show as power girl on earth 1.
