Remember when the show was realistic?

Yah, good times
I was about to quit with all the Hugo Strange mutants stuff, WAY over the top. Luckily, they've gone back to more down to earth stuff with Mad Hatter, and i'm actually enjoying myself with it again! (It probably will never be as great as when Falcone was THE big bad, or at least as when Jim went to prison, but let's hope!). -

I kind of wish the show would stay immersed in all that crime drama intrigue because all these fanciful tropes and colorful villains are feeling out of place. They're also being wasted too early in the pre-Batman timeframe when they should have been saved for later.

Yeah, but it still felt.more or less grounded, if anything there was some magic realism to it. Even Mr. Freeze i could somewhat deal with, but Fish with a supersuit and powers? Nope. And yes, i know these things all exist in Batman, and i don't exactly argue against plots about genetic modification, it's the style some things are presented that comes off ridiculous when put next to the otherwise VERY dark and "realistic" world we see.

It never was realistic and while I am not sure I like the direction it's taking, I also don't want too much realism either. Characters like Bane, Killer Croc, Mister Freeze, and Clayface are as much a part of Batman as The Joker. So it does need to be set in a universe where those concepts are possible.

You might wanna change the thread title, OP.
Back in early Season 1 when it was mere crime drama, it wasn't entirely realistic. There may not have been as many science fiction elements as now, but it was still highly improbable (a man killing people with weather balloons?)
It may've been more grounded back then, but A) Batfans wanted it to be closer to Batman, and B) it really wasn't working out very well. -

It's a show about how a city spawns criminals so bizzare that it actually forces a billionaire to become Batman.
It was never realistic nor was it ever going to be
And for the record, the comics are even more weird
