In the presence of evil, Ghostrider takes over. Robbie has control over Ghostrider beyond that, I think. Last night, he lost control because he wanted that guy dead, which wasn't right. But the Ghostrider probably feeds on vengeance, which might end up giving him more control over Robbie. The guy in prison even said he didn't send them. Robbie killed him mainly because he was part of that gang and he was destroying all that gang.

I really don't know where you got that vibe from.

Robbie has some control as he chooses the victims but the spirit needs to be fed.
He didn't really want to kill that guy but he's hoping that killing all the members of the gang responsible for hurting his brother will free him. That guy was the last one.

That guy was the last member of the gang, but someone put the hit on them. If the spirit is going to go away when that crime is fully avenged, he needs to get the guy that was ultimately responsible for it, not just the tools he used.

The Host acts as a safety and keeps the Rider in check. He comes out in the presence of evil but the host even when not in control still has minor influence

The show has done a great job so far of showing how the Rider is cursed. It's not a super power he has full control over. When he smells sin and it needs to be punished, the Rider comes forth and there's not much he can do about it. Hence his finishing off of the gang leader even though it endangered the mission and his own family concerns. I don't think Ghost Rider can employ his abilities on the weak and innocent. But for sure he can pull up his power to smack down the supernatural as he did with the ghosts. I think he can "Flame On" if pushed as a means of self preservation, but not actually take lives unless they're hard core sinners.

                      probably becuase of two things..
it isn't by the rider's own standards but Mephisto's standards and mephisto doesn't care if you are a model anything. to him it's all black and white if you are guilty you are guilty. Mephisto isn't big on forgiveness. there is no i'm sorry that a killer could give and get away with it from him or the spirits of vengence. to them a reformed killer is still a killer.
the same is kind of true for the spirit of vengences as well but in the comics they aren't always so lethal with humans. What they have the penance stare for.. the Spirits of Vengence can cause a whole lot of pain without ever physically hurting anyone why kill when you can do that.
in the comics the third ghost rider is sort of unique. Robbie was possesed by his satan worshipping uncle (who is alive in this universe) and that ghost rider could mimick a number of the powers of the spirit of vengence except the penance stare to my knowledge he hasn't ever shown that ability. it's also why the ghost rider kills.. he isnt' a true spirit of vengence but a serial killer with hellfire powers similar to them. anyway a deal was made in the comics so that ghost rider would only kill people who deserve it.
which brings up several questions here. if it's not Robbie's uncle who is possesing him does it mean Robbie has a true Spirit of Vengence in him? or something new.

I believe in an interview with either a producer or writer they had made mention of using elements of all the ghost riders into this version of Robbie. So I think that means this version of him has a spirit of vengeance inside of him.

but by the same token using all elements could suggest that there isn't a true spirit of vengeance inside of him as well. i guess we'll find out next Tuesday when we get the origin of the ghost rider.
either way none of them are big of reformed people or forgiveness. Zarathos wasn't a spirit of vengence but he became one by absorbing their powers but he could be selective in he could see an person who has done evil and not kill them. but that didn't mean he thought the person was innocent.
Noble Kale was human and became a ghost rider and the same thing applies to him. he could stand beside someone who did evil before but he wasn't big on forgiveness either but he was a lot more lenient than the others.
the rest of the spirits of vengence protected human kind before zarathos absorbed their powers (tricking them into making them think they would be stronger) and then losing to Mephisto who their powers didn't work on since Mephisto gave up his soul so there was nothing to burn.
regardless a model prisoner doesn't matter to them. they don't operate by any law on Earth but their own and to them a killer who became a model prisoner is still a killer. there is no penance or forgiveness in any them.

This is true, but I think for simplicity's sake they would make him a spirit of vengeance. It's the more widely known version of Ghost Rider's origin, Plus they've used the word vengeance a lot in the advertising for this season.

Robbie was in the prison so he was surrounded by evil/baddies but he does seem to have control over it more then Nicolas Cage did.
