Emasculate the Asian guy

I don't think there is anything wrong with mixed raced couples in real life or fiction. I do think it would be nice for minorities (most of which will marry people of the same ethnic background) to see themselves represented as romancing one another every now and then.
You're right mixed couples typically have a white participant. The networks don't think white people can be emotionally invested in a couple unless there is someone they identify with and that person has to be white.
I'd love to see an Asian hero on screen or see an Asian guy get the girl.
Asian males are woefully underrepresented on tv and typically never get the girl or save the day. The guy on Crazy Ex-GF has a white love interest. I don't know about the Hawaii 5-0 guy.
We can do better. DC's tv shows are extremely diverse. There is not a single Asian character presently on any DC CW shows. -

I wouldn't say the Asian guy was emasculated, considering he was trying to pressure her into exchanging sex for information right before Jim rolled in. If he were emasculated, he would've been more sexually passive, I think? He was kind of sleazy tbh.

Yes, because you are a dissociating male/female relations as nothing but crass animal behavior, we're all here for you to 'size up' into categories, that's the* marker of a predatory anti-social personality. That's a rather twisted/dark and oddly dumbed down/general hierarchical assessment if I ever saw one, by someone lacking any REAL understanding about the affection women would have for men or vice versa. Certain youre of considerably less mature EQ, but for the unfortunate reading audience, for us ladies sake, let me just answer this one for the aggrieved maternal reject.
Yes, it takes MUCH to be a real man, and no, you are not even close* to having come across as such a partner or provider for any woman. Perhaps if you prey on meat that is quite histrionic, you would find yourself possibly having a shot, but shed be at a mental disadvantage thatd result in quite the unfortunate life situation for her* and any offspring all the same. How you sorely intend to communicate, thats not how you speak to ANY woman, least since you clearly trolled this message board, you shouldn't have even responded to me if your question was innocent or naive of the facts (you feigned naivety and intended to proceed with an aggrandized temper - adolescent outburst - and arrogance to lecture us males and females about your Asian socio status or lack of, in your case).
Labeling quickly, instigative, artificial presumptions about mating or how women select them. Mating? I'm confused, is this poster watching the Nature channel? It's 2016, you have enough media, educational materials, and community sentiment at your disposal to understand the concept that people enjoy love marriages, financial security, not douchbaggery or men whom have emotional gripes with them, that is all dissociative behavior, Mr. You would need to act like a man before any one of us lady-folk recognize you as one,
period
. That is the part that is clearly upsetting you. Calculating women like trophies, men as victors. If you felt women and men equally select as mates, then you wouldnt have wasted our time about the Asian male losing out to a white male already. Newsflash, socioeconomic relatability DOES matter, that guy wasnt even in her realm. And I presume youd be rejected too! I am sure this person takes reaaal mental notes whenever women dont behave according to their self-indulgent 'theories.' Even anthropologically, (unless raped by anti-social aggressives - insert cough); healthy women select partners according to social, biological, paternal, financial, behavioral attributes they find breed-worthy;' and used their skills, affection, or desires to select a life partner by bringing their mates food, nurture their children, provide security, or embody steady providers. The ones who didnt, were eventually left out of the social group. Primate behavior 101. Rape Culture 101.
Good bye with yourself, now. -

By your "women are to be competed over" logic, though, surely the scene was not a problem then? Gordon swooped in, shut the sleazy guy down, and "won" the prize? If you believe women are to be competed over, then surely all's fair in love and war?
Or, if you take the show as it was clearly meant to be seen, Vale tried to "use" that guy for information, he decided he wanted something (arguably a bit sleazy) in return, and Vale replied "no, that's off the table" before Gordon arrived and chased the guy off.
If anything, I feel the show is painting Gordon as the slightly pathetic one. Vale was up for "no strings attached" sexy times, but he is treating her like a girlfriend. I don't think they see this relationship the same way; she's not Lee, and is far less "twue wuv" than Gordon is about relationships. -

The problem isn't that Jim won the prize, it's that the sleazy guy was an Asian. I'm glad the actor got a resume builder and some cash, but it's pathetic he got THAT part. The show has so many secondary and tertiary characters, most are white, some are black, a few are Hispanic.
They cast an Asian female and she gets with a white guy. They cast a second Asian male and he's sleazy and ran off by the white guy.

Why couldn't have Jim humiliated another white guy?

Regardless, Jim is on his third sexual partner. Teenybopper Bruce has had two girlfriends. Riddler had a girlfriend. No non-white male on this show has even kissed a woman. Every minority women on this show has only shown a romantic interest for white males.
White producers and writers promoting the thought that only white males are sexual or capable of romance. -

Looks like this guy's feelings get pretty hurt very easily and quickly.
Welcome to hillary's america.
I don't agree with what you are saying, therefore. RACIST, HOMOPHOBIC, XENOPHOBIC, heck any type of PHOBIC as long as you shut UP!
Sorry, some of us don't play that PC game.
Thing is, if you block all the dissenters of the forum. You end up in an echo chamber living in a glass house!
Are you an SJW ? If so, please kill yourself immediately! Thanks -

Got to agree with OP here. They haven't shown a single likeable Asian man on the show. The only ones present were Dr Strange and the one that is part of the gang. And they were both villains. Even the Asian male guest who was at Penguin's inauguration party was alone, whereas the Asian female guest was with a White dude.
From the moment I saw Jamie Chung, I immediately knew she was going to be the sexual interest of one of the White dudes on the show. And to add to that, they had to portray the hematologist she was having dinner with as incapable of seducing a woman, while of course the white dude is portrayed as alpha.
Typical racist White show (with the usual token Black friend character - Fox).
Asian guys should stop accepting such roles. -

Agree that they've tokenized Fox. They could do a lot better with diversity for sure.
Don't agree about the Asian guy (he was a sleazy scumbag who tried to coerce her) and don't really agree about Hugo Strange, because he was a great character. 95% of the characters on Gotham are creepy villains - even Jim is an a-hole - so who are these positive white heroes?
The only sort of likable people are Harvey (who used to be a dirty cop!), Bruce and Selina (who are kids) and Fox. Everybody else is skeevy, including Valerie, who uses people for information and Alfred, who punched a teenage girl in the face. They're all a bunch of degenerates, so I think if you're looking for a good role model of anything, you're going to be looking for a long time. Jim is the main character and he's a douchebag.
The only thing the show should really improve on is giving minority actors more major roles in the show. They aren't going to be positive, because nobody is positive. They should just give them more to do. BD Wong killed it as Hugo. They should bring on more POC villains, since the show is basically Jim & Bruce + villains. -

Gotham has a lot of morally gray characters. The heroes may do bad things, but they are still the good guys. They live in a dirty world, they are bound to get a little on them. Strange was a good character and definitely complex and not one note.
I understand the appeal of Michael Chiklis, but there are other characters that are not from the comics that could have been Asian. The first mayor for instance.
I think the iconic Batman villains are white, but they made firefly an Hispanic female and the story was well served.

I'm 100% cool with color-bending, so you're preaching to the choir. My point was just that none of these characters are really excellen rep for any minority group. It would just be more like rep, rather than good rep.

I never said a minority person shouldn't be the bad guy. I have no problem with Tabitha or Fish. I don't think they are worse characters than Fox. If Tabitha played Bullock's informant and had three children out of wedlock and was on welfare that would bother me or if Fish spoke in Ebonics. It's stereotypical depictions that bother me.
Even when there are morally gray Caucasian characters there are good ones to balance them out, Bruce, the Commissioner, and Jim's still a good guy.
Asian males are rarely shown as legitimate love interests, this is just another example. Much like Hispanic Cisco on The Flash.

Cisco has been shown to get the ladies. I think he would have been cool if he were married in the new post-Flashpoint reality. Sadly, Berlanti shows don't know how to develop the secondary character's personal lives besides Felicity.
He's flirted and kissed Golden Glider and I agree she is hot and if Frequency tanks she'll be back sooner rather than later. But there is no way they ever show them in a real relationship.
Kendra was definitely his gf.
The difference between Gotham and the Berlanti shows is Gotham does a much better job of developing the entire cast. How often do we see Cisco not at work? I'd love to see 10 minutes a month dedicated to his having a love interest and juggling that with Team Star Labs. I.E. "You work at Star Labs all day and then hang out there at night?"
Too bad the writers can't see beyond Metas of the Week.

LOL. Yeah, Cisco and Caitlin spend every waking moment at the labs. They're also super invested in Barry's love life. It's like, get your own? Apparently nobody is allowed to get laid but Barry and Iris?
The new Ghost Rider (Robbie Reyes) on Agents of Shield is Mexican-American and - though nothing has happened yet - I think there's a very good chance he's going to end up in a relationship with the lead female character, who is Asian/White. Actually, AoS is probably the best show on network tv for rep right now, especially in this genre.
ITA Asian men in general are under-resented on tv, and when you do see then, they're usually playing sexless computer geeks. To be fair, all minorities suffer from annoying, bad stereotypes. If I see another wimpy, Jewish businessman/lawyer, desperately in love with the blonde WASP goddess whom he can never have, who ends up secretly embezzling moneyick. Or the earnest, cholo, blue collar guy in love with the educated white woman whose family/friends don't approve. I'm not even going to touch the 50 black stereotypes.
Writers could really get a little more creative
