I remember back when all of this first started Barry set fire to some clothing, including felicity from arrow. Now everyone runs fast in regular clothing and no fire. Is friction on vacation? Or did we decide is was no longer relevant to the show?

The new answer to all questions, as Speedforce was the former

I think initially Barry had no concept of what was happening to him and couldn't manipulate the Speed Force properly to shield his clothing from the friction. Now that everyone's familiar with speedsters and the Speed Force, they can more easily manipulate the speed force into a frictionless shield that envelops the speedster as well as his passengers.
