he does a stint as the brash superhero in the yellow tunic, then completely retires from superheroics, later marrying Reba and running a bar.
The experiment that gave him super strong skin could also retard aging.
That way we could have gotten classic Luke Cage and his campy villains, as well as a mellow, modern Luke Cage.
I know that Luke Cage having slowed aging isn't in the comics, but half the stuff in the Netflix series is new material anyway.

It didn't feel like a superhero show to me. Luke was great and the guy that played him but that was it. They could literally have made a cop show about it without a "superhero" and the result would have been pretty much the same. That's how little I felt about the impact of Luke Cage. I get it, they wanted to create a down to earth "modern" superhero not wearing a costume and what not. But then what's the point?
