It was never going to match its lowest CBS numbers, that was a given. When a show makes a drastic change like jumping to another network, only loyal viewers will follow (not the people like my grandma who only watched the show because she just likes to watch whatever is on CBS each night).
However, I'd say by CW standards (which are lower than the other networks) a 1.1 is very successful. It will more than likely go down as the season goes on, but I doubt it will ever reach the sinking depths of 0.3 or 0.1 like some of the current CW shows.

It doesn't matter how badly this show does. It's there just for the crossovers and for the nerd-bois to get their panties wet for.
It'll never get cancelled as long as it promotes it's own agenda thanks to that GAF berlanti.

It's garbage, what do expect? The other network was smart to dump it.

OP there was too much going on last night on tv
            MLB playoffs
            MNF
            DWTS etc
            Even BBT like somebody mentioned
I think a lot of people who don't follow the CW on a regular basis probably didn't even realize SG premiered
It doesn't surprise me the ratings were a little low

This is a ridiculous thread. There's no way The CW isn't pleased with those numbers. The rating (and not number of viewers) is what matters and Supergirl premiered with good numbers.

"Poor," my ass. Those ratings were great! Might the CW have liked them a little higher (like The Flash's 1.3/5 and slightly higher audience)? I'm sure, but they were well on target to justify the move. They got the bulk of the network's audience to check out the show. It even tied with Lucifer and Gotham on FOX and outperformed Conviction on ABC. Time was the CW couldn't even hope to match even the low-hanging fruit on the other major networks. Well, times have changed. Now its higher shows are in the middle.
Nobody in the industry compares individual show ratings across networks for renewal purposes; come that time, shows are always ranked within the network. The audiences are different with different behaviors. For instance, the CW audience is younger and more hooked into online viewing than those watching CBS, something the CW has been pretty successful in monetizing in recent yearsSupergirl season one has been on Netflix all month and CW viewers are probably mostly caught up.
The CW audience also tends to be more loyal than those of other networks, so those viewers who showed up to watch this week are more likely to come back next week, too.
There's absolutely no reason for either the CW or CBS to be upset today. The show could very easily have tanked, but it hit big instead. If they got a lot of crossover from last season's CBS audience, all the better. Plus, anyone who follows ratings on the CW knows full well that Mondays are a death slot night for the network, so for Supergirl to get this rating against cross-programming like The Big Bang Theory and The Voice is impressive.
Try actually reading up on how ratings work before posting, next time. You just came off looking like an idiot.

Funny, I heard it was the best ratings the CW has seen in years
(of course, not like that took much)

That's low. I expected higher with Superman.
This means a big drop in the next few weeks and a 0.7-0.8 definitely and just above 2 million viewers.
But CW keeps dropping ratings every year like all tv.

All of the networks have been dropping since 1980. In fact, because it's been dropping more slowly than the other networks, the CW is in better shape relative to the Big Four than it's ever been.
