          The Ultimate Fantastic Four comics had Ben rescue Reed from a swirly. This has them meet while Reed is being chased by bullies in Ben's family's junk yard.
          In the case of the movie, the prologue showing Ben and Reed as children doesn't really tell us anything we don't pick up in or after the science fair scene.

            ultimate fantastic four comics were dreadful so using them as a defense isnt helping
