Sure, he transformed into something that had great strengthbut look at what it cost him. Unlike Swamp Thing and even Bru

is that what he was? i couldn't quite describe the animal he became; kind of wild boar-ish. but he also had scales; like an aardvark. at any rate, maybe he could talk and just didn't have anything to say.

Makes sense. Before the transformation, he seemed like a wild

Personally, I'd say hell no! It looked quite painful and the end result not worth it. He didn't really even seem that strong, compared to what Holland had become. And having your blood change into brown gravy? Meh, I'll pass.
Would you say Holland's transformation was worth it? I'm kind of on the fence on that one. He gained serious power and strength, yet maintained his intelligence. I realize that due to the budget and technology available at the time the movie version is pretty weak compared to what ST is capable of in comics. For that level of power, I think it would be worth it.
I always wondered if Holland's transformation was as painful and hideous as Arcane's or Bruno's. Arcane was evil to the core, so he deserved it. Bruno was a villain, but showed small hints of regret and remorse for his actions. Holland was a compassionate man who truly cared for others and wanted to help, so would his transformation been more peaceful? Of course exploding and being engulfed in flames (still a legendary stunt to this day) would suck, but once he fell in the water I'd like to think the swamp took him in, and he didn't suffer like Arcane or Bruno. -

Thats exactly the reason how Holland transformed into the Swamp Thing. His transformation had nothing to do with "his essence". Now if Holland had drank the formula like Bruno and Arcane did then "his essence" would've been exposed..
I'd like to believe that Swamp Thing knew Arcane was gonna transform into an ugly monster since he had already known Arcane was
evil

Holland did show a strong affinity in the swamp and nature in general early in the film.
He also tells Arcane: "It simply amplifies your essence."
Since he is the guy who created the formula and was affected by it I'd think that if he says it affects one's "essence", then it does. -

But that doesnt make sense because Holland didnt sip the formula like Bruno and Arcane did. Holland's transformation came from the formula that absorbed his body with the muck-filled swamp..
Holland would've not turned into the Swamp Thing if he had drank the formula. -

Agreed on it not making much sense. Always figured it was meant to be mysterious on how it worked.
I would say that to be affected by the serum one only has to have been exposed to it, not just ingestion. That can't be since Linda dipped her fingers in it and did not transform.
It's always been my assumption that when he fell and the serum exploded it created the chemical reaction for his transformation. It's explosive nature and the amount would be equal to if not more compared to drinking it. Holland showed his love of nature and desire to help mankind through his research, so via his creation, he became his inner essence.
What do you think he would have changed into if he had drank his formula? -

Holland would've probably transformed into an animal similar to Bruno and Arcane's description but with good intentions.
Holland's formula could make Forrests out of deserts as he discovered when the boards grew in his lab. When he got caught on fire and then jumped in the bog, the formula reacted with the slime, ooze of the swamp and voil Holland is transformed into the Swamp Thing that's why the formula worked differently on him. -

Looked like someone in an awful Halloween costume. I forgot that's what he looked like. I think he was gonna turn into some purple vampire looking creature. Wasn't that Swamp Thing, or was that Toxic Avenger? Anyways, I hated the costume on this villain. It looked beyond the point of fake. Not bad movie tho. It was enjoyable for what it was.
