I know that the Avengers comic came before 'The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen' comic - I'm talking about the films, 'Avengers Assemble' takes a LOT of cues from 'LXG':
'LXG' - as damned as it may be by comic fans but it has many fans in and of itself - had a bulk of the action in the middle taking place on Nemo's boat. Replace Nemo's boat with Fury's Avengers Carrier, replace Hyde with Hulk - Nemo even had a storage bay for Hyde as Fury had for Hulk - the group unearth Fury's weapon plan, just as the League found out Nemo's plans.
A female hero with a shady past is vulnerable because of that - Mina/Black Widow - while a veteran takes a protege under his wing Quatermain with Tom Sawyer/ Stark with Banner.
A treacherous enemy lures the team into almost helping him - Loki/Moriarty - while an out-of-time Hero (Quatermain/Cap America) eventually has to become the leader who holds the team together. An immortal almost betrays the group with a link to the enemy (Dorian Gray/Thor)
I love both movies - I'm just saying that someone, as good a writer as Whedon is (and an original spin and Marvel lore was in the movie) 'LXG' must have been looked at as a blueprint for a team-up movie
Can anyone who has seen both spot any other similarities?

Its more likely Moore was playing with the same sort of set up as Avengers. Remember, Hes worked for about every comic company out there.
As for simmilarities. If the movies had come out close together then maybe. But even then, the resemblances are spurious at best and non-existent at worst.
      Blueprint? Unlikely.

Weak. Most of the things you bring up were part of Marvel lore since the 60s.
SHIELD plays a huge role in the MCU films. Of course the Heli-Carrier is gonna be in it.
Black Widow's been part of the Avengers since the '60s with that same storyline.
It's the other way around with the Hulk/Hyde. The LXG producers changed Hyde from Alan Moore's version to a Hulk clone.
Loki was always the factor in the formation of the Avengers.
Don't know where you get that stuff about the Stark/Banner relationship. Stark saw Banner as his equal, not a protege.
You get so many things wrong about AVENGERS I wonder if you even saw it. You certainly sound like someone who knows nothing about the Avengers long history or Alan Moore's series.

I know about the comics - I'm talking about the actual film adaptations which - as Alan Moore would stress - are very diferent entities. One film has copied another.

Velvoofell don't be discouraged by the biased replies you've recieved. When people like a film, they are adamant that it has no similarities to others.
LXG and The Avengers had several similar aspects. Like portions taking place on the submarine and the aircraft carrier. In both movies, in both these settings, the teams 'monster' was manipulated and lured out by the enemy to destroy the heroes vessel. Hyde and Hulk, very similar SCENES IN THE MOVIES, not just 'oh Moore's Hyde was based off of Hulk', the SCENES are very much alike.

Moore's Hyde wasn't based on the Hulk. The lame Hyde in the film version was a Hulk ripoff (primarily the Mr. Fixit/Pantheon era) because the filmmakers were too cowardly to use Moore's version (the one who raped and at the Invisible Man).

This post is like 4 years old and still incorrect. Moore even claimed he viewed Mr Hyde as the chief predecessor to the Hulk. It's how he had him in the comic. But that is only based on his interpretation of one line out of the book. Some agree with him, others didn't.
The film didn't change his viewpoint on how he appeared. They just changed how he acted. In the comic they played up more that Hyde persona is a very nasty piece of work. They gave him a more gentle persona, because as well established not everyone cares for deconstruction as much as Moore writes it.

I KNOW THAT THE AVENGERS IN THE COMICS PREDATED LXG!!!
LXG the movie predated Avengers the Movie and there are several pieces of evidence that LXG the movie was the Avengers movie base.

And on the thread in general, congrats you found lose evidence to compare two movies. Hooray. Now go on and do it on everything else.
Unless you live your whole life in an academic dungeon, you should realize no work of art was made in a vacuum. They all have direct/indirect abilities to influence others. When you look hard enough you can connect just about anything. It's a skill of knowing your history, not a conspiracy or epiphany.
