Margot Kidder and Richard Lester

It is well known that Margot Kidder did not have Richard Lester in very high regard. Seeing him as a yes man for the Salkinds after the firing of Richard Donner. In my view Kidder's best scene as Lois Lane was at the end of Superman II where she shares her feelings to Clark. It is curious to think this scene was directed by Lester, was Kidder trying to prove a point to Lester?
