It was decent for me too but probably because of this new terrible New 52 films that make it look better.
In the old days with quality stuff like Under the Red Hood or The Dark Knight Returns, Assault on Arkham would be garbage. -

I thought JL War was a fun, yet decent flick as well. Assault would still be decent in comparison to the previous.
The thing is UTRH & TDKR:Pt 1,2 are considered by many to be the best among the rest and are almost always brought up every time people talk about the old guard of DC animated flicks.
Even if Returns is the cut-off point for you, Flashpoint Paradox is still a quality feature. -

Red Hood and TDKR are the "old days"? Aren't those only a few years old? I think of Mask of the Phantasm as the old days, and that pretty much set the standard. I guess the rest are older compared to the new 52, which I don't like either, but there were some bad ones before too. The one with Brainiac and Luthor was pretty bad. I miss Bruce Timm and Andrea Romano.

Hm, I didn't know that. I thought she wasn't doing this anymore and TDKR was her last DC DTV gig (I think she worked on the Beware the Bat TV show though). I don't always notice the credits. The voices were fine, the directing was fine if she did some of that. I didn't hate SOB (heh, just realized that). Just thought the stories have been kind meh with a lot of these. Hard to beat Mask of the Phantasm.
I just looked it up and it says she's going to be doing the Puss In Boots series. I wasn't going to watch that, but I'm a fan of hers and the movie was ok. I just worry I've long since grown out of being the audience for that. At least these movies have been able to be a little more adult, but I wonder if that's always a good thing. -

The voices and their direction are common complaints I've seen, which, for the most part, are fairly understandable.
Mask of Phantasm has been beaten based on audience and critical reception.
See JL: Flashpoint Paradox, TDKR P1 & P2, and Batman: Under the Red Hood.
"Adult" in as little it takes to get the PG-13 rating. The stories are currently meant to be as accessible as the most derivative action fantasy fare. Thus, they skew closer to teens and can rightfully be considered mere popcorn flicks. -

Flashpoint was great, I love that TDKR stayed so true to the comics, and UTRH was fine imo. I personally just think Phantasm was the pinnacle that so far hasn't been reached. I get that others may disagree, I remember at the time people nitpicked because there wasn't as much to compare it to. And I get that time can lead to nostalgia, but it can also lead to people forgetting. I'm not just looking back fondly, I just saw it and Return of the Joker not too long ago, they still hold up. In my opinion it is the still best. Others are free to disagree, think it hasn't aged well, etc. It's art, it's subjective. Some people liked the Suicide Squad one, some didn't. Everyone's favorite is going to be different.
As long as no one says theirs is the Superman one with Brainiac, that was just garbage.
