When Yvaine first fell from the sky, she landed in Wall instead of Stormhold? Does that mean she would turn into stardust instantly and the events of the story wouldn't have happened?

Considering there's been no documented cases I assume falling stars don't survive re-entry above our world. Or maybe they turn into giant hail, like those tennis ball-sized lumps that kill people and dent cars?
I'll ask a meteorologist next time I'm in a TV station pretending to clean stuff.
