Trevor Slattery!
Now this is all just conjecture, as I'm interpreting Easter Eggs as I see fit, so bear with me and don't jump all over it yet.
In the One Shot, we get Trevor being shown a video of his failed pilot called Caged Heat. At 6:13, we see the main character's hand on the gear shift of his Ferrari, and on the pinky of that hand? A RING. Maybe one of the TEN?
Granted, there's only one ring, and it appears to simply be a funny Russian prop, with a hammer and sickle. Wait, a hammer and sickle, you say? As in Justin Hammer and Sickle of the Mandarin's Avengers?
That's right, Trevor Slattery was wearing a ring that featured the names of two of Iron Man's villains, one of whom was incarcerated in the very same prison as Trevor.
Coincidence? I think not! Or maybe, since it was probably just a nod from the writers. They do love to add those eggs, don't they?
However, if you also watch at 5:16 when Trevor looks at the photo of himself and his mother, the music shifts, and his voice changes slightly, letting us know that there is a LOT of stuff going on in his head as he remembers his mother.
We can tell just by the nuance of Ben Kingsley's incredible acting that there is a mountain of backstory behind this character, and if you think that we've seen it all, or that we won't be shown any more of it, you're out of your mind. My money's on Trevor actually being the Mandarin, and the ruse is a ruse. His "rescuer" will probably drop him in front of the "Mandarin" back at home base and the "Mandarin" will bow in front of Trevor and say, "Welcome home, Master." -

Making Slattery the real Mandarin would be even more cheesy. I don't think they will do that. Not to mention the fake reporter says the real Mandarin wants to meet the person who has been portraying him.
Either way I just hope something comes of this. Letting it sit on the table for many years would just make this short feel completely useless. Maybe they can throw something our way next year with The Avengers 2.
You're never going to get any truth from us(the media). We'll tell you anything you want to hear.
