Alright, so it's been established that Trevor Slattery is NOT the real Mandarin, which is a shame because Ben Kingsly is a great actor and he plays villains incredibly well.

There is in fact a real Mandarin in the marvel film universe and he is associated with the ten rings, which is REALLY nice to see them coming back. I was hoping that they'd return for IM3. So I wonder what they're going to do with them.Join us

I think nothing. There would have to be more Iron Man movies, but I'd really be surprised if they would attempt another Mandarin story in the very next movie. But the prospects of an IM4 are already thin because of RDJ not wanting to do another one as of now.
If anything, I think this was more of a way of showing that there is a real one out there and it fits with the 10 rings set up in the first movie. That's not much, but it sure made me feel better about the disappointment that was IM3 -

If not for an Ironman film, then maybe a lead up to Nick Fury or possibly a future Ultron appearance after Avengers 2.
