Okay so the really old guy was 'B' which made me think that they went in alphabetical order, and just replaced the letters as they go on. (like if 'J' quits before 'B' the next one they recruit is called 'J' then 'B') which would make sense. But 'K' says he was one of the first nine MIB agents, which alphabetically would mean he would be a letter between 'A' and 'I'. There is also the "take the first letter of your name" tactic. Which would explain making Will Smith's character (James Edwards) 'J' But I feel like that would run into more problems then the alphabetical order idea. Anyone know?

It's the first letter of their real name J was James for instance.
Of course multiple people with the same letter would be confusing. Maybe J1 J2 etc. Who knows?

I believe it repeats if someone else has that letter. so J is the first. JJ is second. JJJ is third.

That's rather curious, and a bit silly if you ask me.

In "Men in Black 3", one of the agents is called "Agent Double A", so that's how it works.

              Thanks.
I wonder what Agent Double D would be like, and if she is one 🙂
