OK, htis post contians a spoiler for the end of the Serial, so if you haven't sen it and do not want ot know hwo this ends, stop readign here.
OK, Alfred at the end flips the switch to opens the Third Panel, which is also a door, distractign the police, and when they pursue the Batman, he opens the Pit.
Well, even Robin and Batman had to learn how to controle the room, and which button or knob did what. Alfred, who had only arrived with the Police, shoudl not know how to work the controles.
So how did he know? -

Robin accidentally opened the gator pit instead of the closing the door when Daka was trying to escape. Alfred is seen reading a book at least once or twice in the serialso I guess Alfred was just a better reader than Robin. LOL
Or maybe Robin was just in a rush and didn't notice the labels in the heat of the moment.
