It was such a treat to finally hear Tim Daly do the voice of Superman again. As much as I do love George Newborn's performance, I have wondered what it would have been like if he had done the character on "Justice League". Dand Delany is energetic as always as Lois Lane. David Kaufman brought his youthful wit back to the part of Jimmy Olsen. And George Dzundza gives a VERY prominent performance this time as Perry White.
But, then we come to newcomers Powers Booth and Lance Henriksen. Henriksen does not have nearly the kind of coldness and unemotionality imortalized by corey Burton as Brainiac. It makes you wonder why they even bothered choosen the character for the film in the first place if they do not even have the man taht made the character so memorable. And why is Brainiac suddenly addressing Superman as the "Son of Krypton" instead of "Kal-El" or even "Son of Jor-El". It just seems a bit strange considering that Brainiac is himself from Krypton as well.
And then there is Powers Booth as Lex Luthorwhat the hell happened?! Clancy Brown's Lex has always been the elegant, egotistical, cultured thug archetype. yet here, Poweres Booth portrays him as a slapstick, 1.5-dimensional, Gene Hackman-esc comic relief that ties back to the seires only in visual likeness and in the fact that he is the head of LexCorpand therefore most of Metropolis.
But where this film shines the most (if at all) are in two places: the fight sequences between Superman and Brainiac, and the acting between Tim Daly and Dana Delany. Say what you will of the film, but the action scenes are still very well animatedat least upon first viewing. But this film is all about Lois and Clark, and I remember at first being a bit disappointed that Clark hadn't really told her him secret at all and that it was all an illusionat least after Bruce Timm NEVER went to that level throughout the series or even in Justice League.
But then again, I'm just a Dc Animated Universe fan who was smart enough to se this film when it aired on Cartoon Network instead of rushing to buy it, so what the hell do I know?

I agree with some of your post, but I must say they really dropped the ball on what could have revived Superman the animated series, just to crank something out to attach themselves to the Superman Returns release. Bad form guys.

This movie was not at all close what we saw in the series. The voices of the villians were different and I just couldn't get over that. Also, Lex was to comical, he's the kind of guy who stops at nothing to get what he wants, and he's usually soooo professional about it. In this movie, he was portrayed as a dufus, a clown who didn't take anything into consideration, any of the possible outcomes, and he didn't have any back up plans to accomidate any problems, come on, this isn't lex luthor, this is a rip off.

It was great to hear Tim Daly do Superman's voice again, even if he wasn't working with the best material. And it's always good to hear Dana Delany as Lois Lane. But Powers Boothe as Lex Luthor was a horrible mistake. Boothe was a good Grodd but he's a poor substitute for Clancy Brown, but given how goofy they made Lex here maybe they did Brown a favor by not bringing him back. Lance Henriksen threw out a decent Brainiac voice, but he probably would have benefitted from not having jokes thrown into his dialogue.
