I don't thikn it was a failure in the classic sense of the word - - but I do think it was too over ambitious of a project that Spike took underwing just right out of the gate. It almost seemed they were pushing too hard to be the "Network for Men" and just did this because they could.
And now look at what SpikeTV is now - (seemingly) 17 episodes of CSI a day, and something UFC related every-so-often. -

its ashame spike doesnt have this series to actually give itself some credit.ecept for the weekends with the powerblock there known for now showing every episode of csi ever made and ufc and tna impact every once in a while.lets not forget all the police chase shows and when animals attack.

A failure? No. On an artistic level it succeeded.The ensemble cast was quite good.The story was intricate and involving.The greatest hurdle was getting used to a new Blade.I think as time goes by, fans who ignored it and new fans alike will realized what a gem of a show we lost.

I too thought the show was excellent. I've discussed it with friends, but some say that they can't see anyone else in the role of Blade once I got past that first episode, I really enjoyed it. If only more people gave it a chance. I think it could have a new life on DVD.

The series to me kicked the hell out of Blade Trinity.A great storyline, A good cast of actors and actress.Had the same style and darkness the movies had.To me the series should of had continued.

granted most of those i like but still all they are is super-hero show meets soap opera they don't ave any real plot to them their just something to watch after a long a day and not worry about plot-following is all.
a great show that i would loved to have seen have it's own live action show is Ghostbusters (and no i don't mean that cheap cheesey 70s one, i mean a live action one with ray egon peter and winstin) -

yeah i believe if wesley snipes and chris christopherson signed on for the blade series it would probably have been a HUGE hit. Neither actor have really been doing anything lately. They could have been in it but I heard snipes said no. wish he would have done it.
I dont think Spike could have paid his paycheck tho. If it were on FOX, CBS, ABC or NBC it could have paid enough for snipes' services. Just look at shows like Prison Break or 24. They have huge budgets. -

Not sure this show would have worked on those networks. The overall violence was a bit much for broadcast TV stations and they would have watered it down. It would be nice to see HBO or Showtime pick it up. It still boggles my mind that shows as pathetic as Heroes and Smallville are still on the air.

It didn't just come down to ratings, though they were the main factor. Even though Blade started with really really high ratings, the problem was that it attracted a big female audience which isn't their demographic. The ratings slowly fell week by week though, hence it was cancelled.
The show was pretty beep it didn't have the films production values or story. Blade looked like a pussy and struggled with one Vampire at times, when in the movie it was about how many he could beat the living beep out of. Sticky Fingaz did a good job, but when it came to fight scenes it sucked.

I would also take into account the show was on a station which is now considered csi spike tv.I own the series on dvd and overall it was a good show.Like every first season it had its flaws and im sure if it got a 2nd season it would of gotten those bugs worked out.This is just my two cents.

The show was a failure because it did not get a second season, period. No amount of talking about dubious "artistic" successes will convince me otherwise.
The reasons why are numerous but first of all the casting of basically all unknowns was a bad decision that was probably driven by budget. Stinky Fingaz was terrible in the first few episodes which is all that I could last through. There should have been a huge improvement in his fighting skills after the pilot because there was about a two month break before the series started shooting. He should have been training every weekday to get better at the required martial arts skill for the character. But there wasn't any improvement. He should have also got a dialogue coach to get his voice to sound like his mouth wasn't full of crap and increased his voice level.
Jill Wagner also needed a lot of work on her acting and she should have been working intensely with an acting coach early in 2006 before the main series was shot. I don't have any good things to say about her acting except that it seems a lot of people seemed to give her a pass because she is very beautiful and was willing to show off a lot of her great body on the show. I bet she got the job based on her looks and the buzz that the Mercury commercials she was in was getting in the press (free publicity for the show.) Since the show was on the "channel for Men," I think that looks were more important to the producers than talent. I bet they thought (prayed?) she would get better quickly, but I didn't see any improvement and I was cringing a lot when she was in semi-challenging acting scenes.
Neil Jackson and Jessica Gower were OK as the villians but with the two lead characters mis-cast IMO, they could only do so much to save the presentation from looking like anything other than a college film school/acting school colaboration.
The writing was all over the place with what I have heard was supposed to be a serialized attempt to tell the story of the series. It looks to me that none of the writers had any experience with writing a serialized show and it showed with the story threads being presented haphazardly and not linked very well together. Some points made in the pilot were discarded and never brought back in the first few episodes so why even mention them?
I just think that this show failed because it was not well organized and the storylines did not seem to be well thoughtout before the series started. It also didn't help to make some bad casting choices of unknowns that killed the credibility of the acting quality on the show.
The show might have got better towards the end of the season, but it was so bad to start off with that I and a lot of people I know who were interested in seeing the show before the pilot, gave up on it after the first three to five episodes.
