The moment I heard f this movie I wondered why it couldn't have been made when Batman: The animated series was running especially when the earlier of the two series was more adult-themed and the newer more of a Saturday morning type thing.

I don't think they really had the chance to do it.I mean "mask of the phantasm" was the idea they had while working on the older series,Subzero was supposed to be released after "batman and robin","Return of the joker" was supposed to be a dvd for batman beyond and "mystery of the batwoman" was made because Bruce Timm wasn't involved in it.If they had made a movie at that time it would have kicked the crap out of this one (even though I did like this movie).

I don't think they could've pulled it off. They stayed away from the Gothic stuff back then, and did they ever shaw this much blood. It was a mature show with adult sensibilities, and some aspects of the Batman work that way, some don't. The Batman is based on as series of awesome moments, and BTAS wasn't so much good with those.

They showed a great deal of blood considering there was no vampires and the fact that the stuff weren't R-rated.They amnaged to fit a reasonable amount of blood in the PG rated episodes. It was gothic regarding the architecture and the mood.YOu have to give them credit since animation was harder that time.
