I keep thinking of A Nightmare on Elm Street 4, which was made during a writer's strike, but had special effects from greats like Kevin Yagher and Screaming Mad George. Had a distinct 80's MTV look and feel.

I think it's more common for the opposite to be true. A lot of old school B movies have big ideas and a lot of enthusiasm, but the filmmakers lack the budget and experience to really pull it off.
I will mention Equinox (1970) and Spring Breakers (2012)

I think I own a Spring Breakers DVD but still haven't watched it. I'm a Harmony Korine fan, but hate James Franco.
The 1997 Lolita comes to mind. I love its aesthetic, but it's such a ****ty take on the source material taking Humbert on his word. It misses the subtlety of the novel, and demonizes Dolores.
Mentioning Lolita reminded me of American Beauty. Corny story, but a great looking film with iconic imagery.

Gummo is my favorite of Korine's films, but that could be because my favorite actress makes a very rare late-career appearance in it.

Gummo and Kids are high up. Kids just feels so relatable to how things were in my early teen years. The movie Bully from I think the same director, but different writer than Harmony is also like that. While we're on the subject, Thirteen also reminds me of that time. My 2nd girlfriend even kind of looked like a goth Evan Rachel Wood mixed with Kirsten Dunst and a little Uma Thurman.

My favorite teen movie has always been Heathers. Unless Stand By Me counts. I think it does. They're about to start high school. But, yes, Kids was super relatable. Napoleon Dynamite was a huge cultural touchstone when I was in high school.

I love Heathers. I love anything with Winona Ryder.
Stand By Me is great. One of the few Stephen King stories I prefer as a movie. I feel the characters are more fleshed out, and I'm glad they cut most of Gordy's stories and only left the Lardass one.
Same lol. We used to quote ND all the time. I never went to high school, but I mean that age.

There's a new Stephen King out today. I'm on hold for it at the library, so should read it in a few weeks. I would agree with that assessment of Stand By Me. It's also true of The Shawshank Redemption from the same collection. But mostly they **** his books up in a big way (I like Carrie tho).

I haven't read a lot of his newer books. I hate to say it, but his best stuff is when he was coked out lol.
Yeah, Shawshank, Green Mile, Misery, and a couple others are good. I did like the remake of IT, but don't feel right grouping them in with those.
Most of the adaptations are fun, but cheesy or just don't do the novel justice. I like Pet Sematary, but some of the acting is hokey. The book was such a well written, uncomfortable read.

I like some of his newer stuff. Revival and 11/22/63 are definitely great. But these days he's mostly like literary comfort food, someone I grew up reading and whose voice I love hearing, even if I'm no longer particularly stoked about what he has to say.

Stephen King is definitely comfort food. Like, even the really ****ed up stories make me feel cozy. My favorite, despite not being his best, is IT. It just reminds me of childhood. I find Ben especially relatable.

Depends on the age. I've been skinny. I've been a chubby kid. Been kind of upa and down in weight all my life. Started as a skinny kid. Got chunky in 4th grade. Lost some weight in 5th through 7th. Gained aome in 8th. Lost weight again at 14, but quickly gained it back. Then lost a lot starting from almost 16. I was really in shape in my late teens.

My favorite is Christine, but it was also the first one I read when I was like 12. (It just struck me that I've dated a Carrie and now a Christine. Should I be worried? lmao)

Ironically, the adaptation is the only pre-1990s John Carpenter film I dislike.

I don't think I realized it was John Carpenter who did it.

The new Coppola film? Haven't seen that yet and he hasn't done anything I've liked since 1983. I suppose his wine is ok in a pinch, but now I don't even drink anymore.
