    This is a great question.
In general I divide all actresses into two types. 'Cold' vs 'Warm'.
'Cold' actresses are often those who's talent I (and many others) respect the utmost.
    KHep (Kate Hepburn)
    Bette Davis
    Joan Crawford
    Joan Fontaine
    Rosalind Russell
    Constance Bennett
    Kay Francis
    Dorothy McGuire
    Eleanor Parker
    Mary Astor
    Elizabeth Taylor
    Olivia deHavilland
    Janet Gaynor
    Ginger Rogers
    Jane Fonda
    Norma Shearer
    Virginia Mayo
    Helen Hayes
    June Allison
    Lucille Ball
    Jane Wyman
    Anna Magnani
    Una Merkel
Fine actresses but not inviting, engaging, appealing to me personally. They're too taut, tart, thin-lipped, frosty, rigid.
I admire their skills but I'm often uninterested in their career or their movies. There might only be an occasional film of theirs which I'd re-watch.
I just don't enjoy them on a gut level. They're chilly, off-putting, arch, astringent, aloof, regal, haughty. Snotty. Icy. Caustic. Standoffish, flouncy, brittle.
Not pleasant or enticing to watch. Its a mystery, but nevertheless there it is; that's how I feel.
All the above stands in opposition to 'Warm' actresses. Fleshy, torrid, steamy, breathless, curvy, lissome, nubile, toothsome, throaty, dusky, smouldering, dark-eyed.
    Joan Blondell
    Ann Southern
    Senta Berger
    Monica Vitti
    Claudia Cardinale
    Romy Schneider
    Wanda Hendrix
    Marlene Dietrich
    Jean Peters
    Ann Blyth
    Anne Todd
    Anne Shirley
    Dorothy Malone
    Jean Harlow

for a good example of a "warm" performance, see Annette Benning in my favorite western, Open Range.

          Too recent-release for me.

Their daughter Ella is also acting too.

ah, like the Tennessee Ernie Ford lyric says
I was born one morning, it was drizzlin' rain
Fightin' an' trouble are my middle name
                  I was raised in a cane-break
                  by an old mama lion
                  Can't no high-toned women
                  make me walk the line
(listen to the Steve Goodman live version to get the full effect)
Anyway it's all of little moment. What happened was simply this: I got fed up with watching st television and attending st movies.
Decided to switch my intake to only proven, vetted, curated quality. No more pikers.
My philosophy is: there's no reason to ever sit through a bad movie. Get up and leave the theater instead!

Nope. Not at all. Not that era. At some point –independently –all on my own, my tastes simply ratcheted up to a better level. Same as what happened to Scorcese. Elevated one's game.
Got fed up with all BS television and all BS summer blockbusters. Crapola.
So it's more just kinda like, '
                      idiot savant'
                      .
If you think there's nothing to recommend this path, et me just repeat: two of my pals have movies coming to theaters next year. We're all of like mind.
                      Classics only! Stay authentic.

This is the movie I've seen the most times, so I guess that makes it my favourite.

I'd consider Brittany Murphy to be a warm actress. She had a throaty voice and I think she was dark-eyed too.

Again, I would have to demur. You would know better than I do. She is a contemporary star, I'm sure; so the name is unknown to me.
I'm always watching noirs and war flicks and westerns.

She sadly passed in 2009 at age 32.
She was contemporary because she was in Clueless, 8 Mile, Just Married, Uptown Girls and Don't Say a Word
