I'm casting my vote for
Lord of the Rings
, the greatest fantasy/adventure movie ever made. Breathtaking in every department and Jackson was able to top himself with each subsequent film.
Despite the money thrown at
Titanic
and the well deserved praise for it's fidelity to the era and magnificent fx, the movie unfolded like a Harlequin novel for adolescents and became increasingly silly with each incident. I stopped counting the number of times they contrived to get the main characters off the deck and into the lower areas of the ship to prolong an already overlong movie. On top of that they threw in a jewel robbery and a running gun battle, as if the sinking of the ship weren't enough chaos.
Because I haven't seen enough of the Harry Potter series, I'm withholding my vote.
Absolutely hated
Les Miserables
. One of the great stage musicals of the modern era with epic sweep and majestic songs was raped, mutilated and butchered by the director.
I like the music in
Phantom of the Opera
, did not like what they did with the story, turning The Phantom into a romantic hero with a bad case of acne. Not as wretched as
Les Miserables
, but bad enough.
So, favoring neither movie, no vote.
And This, Too, Shall Pass Away
Schrodinger's Cat walks into a bar, and doesn't.
