Hi everyone. Am I supposed to post this on "Film General". I saw a couple of movie threads here and it appears to be busier. If you've seen any of these, please review them.

drop of the hat? I asked this days ago. I'm not demanding an answer at the drop of a hat. Use your own criteria. Go to dictionary.com and look up masterpiece

The flaw is in your manner of wording and questioning.
What if one only watched say 15 movies over the past 5 years and they didn't like any of them? How far back does one have to go and recollect the last five that they thought were masterpieces, that is if that superlative was even afforded them?
What if someone believes Cheech and Chong's
Up In Smoke - 78'
is a masterpiece and feel it is C&C's funniest film therefore a masterpiece? Does that rate within your context of masterpiece?
"Masterpiece" is all subjective sunshine.

"There Will Be Blood" is definitely the American masterpiece of the last 20 years and I don't think any other movie comes close. I hope PTA's next movie (which comes out this year) is good. I haven't liked anything he's made since.

"La Terrazza"
I've seen some masterpieces, but they're movies I've seen multiple times. But I've seen all the movies you've listed, and think the first two are underrated, despite them being made by great directors. Rohmer and Petri? One of France and Italy's best.
ILoveHutch is a big fan of "Never On Sunday", as am I.
