Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Lauren Bacall

I am watching Harper (and trying to stay awake for the whole thing). I would have guessed she was 55+ in this movie. Not the 41-12 her IMDB DOB would seem to suggest.

Lauren Bacall quit smoking in 1980,smoking doesn't age people the way the media would like you to believe, take a look at the late Loretta Young she smoked for 67 years and her skin was flawless without any help from plastic surgery ,Lauren Bacall was 89 years old and looked damn good almost to end and did it without plastic surgery her last Film http://www.rcshield.com/2014/04/the-forger-2012-a-movie-review/ ' .May she Rest in Peace

        Thanks for the information. Interesting.
Do agree that the facial wrinkles in Harper make her look closer to 55+ not the age her IMDB DOB would suggest (41-42 (depending on when it was actually filmed)).

Those wrinkles were part of her beautie as the semi-androginal face she had. Same than Anne Bancroft. And remeber that she was jewish.

Nah. It was probably the sourpuss personality.

I thought she was still very sexy in that movie.
When Harper was on television, I had showed my mother "Look! My favorite actress is on!", and my mom was surprised that she was into her 40s and not YOUNGER.
                    Care to judge again?

This was still before the significant mouth drop.

It's hard to believe Paul Newman was just a year younger than Bacall. He looked more like her boytoy in the movie. Smoking really did it to her. Look at what it did to that Bette Davis. In contrast, Joan Crawford, who was my dear friend, smoked but she never needed to use cigarettes to look "cool" like Bacall did or as an acting crutch like Davis did. All dear Joan needed was her beauty, talent and charisma. That's what you call a real star.
Don't worry, I ain't on the side of saints yet.
