wish he returned to crime noir in his last decade

to me, after Treasure of the Sierra Madre, when he bought his own production company, he was in movies that were the kind of movies you'd think he'd not want back before he owned a production company, rather dull, common…
I wish he'd done more Film Noir, the "genre" he helped define in the first place… other than Desperate Hours his movies were a bit too eclectic and mainstream to me towards the end… they weren't roles that ONLY HE could play…
and in the case of Sabrina, didn't fit him at all…

I dunno… he's so heavily associated with the genre through his 30s and 40s output that I quite like that he branched out a little more towards the end, even if not always with complete success.
He's certainly miscast in Sabrina, but rather endearingly so. He's great fun in The African Queen - while it's not one of his greatest or most challenging roles, I'm glad that he won an Oscar and it's far from a disgraceful choice.
I really love Beat the Devil, which demonstrates a seldom-tapped gift for comedy - although Bogart himself hated the film.
