Did Kirk make any attempts to become an actor in 1930s or did he plan a different career back then?

He was in the navy before and during WW II, but got discharged due to an injury in 1944. So I guess he had been planning a navy career back in the 1930s.

He had a career in the Broadway theater. He said the plays were flopped but he was a theater performer.
