I'm watching CHAMPION tonight in tribute to the dimpled birthday boy. God bless you Kirk, you are one tough hombre.

          Hi James!
Can you believe it, there is
          no
tribute to Kirk on any of the main cable channels here in the States today? On the Classic Film Board I posted a rebuke of our TCM for failing so abysmally to mark his centennial in any way.
          We'll talk!

Kirk has been honoured here in Blighty. Three of his movies are on BBC today, and three have already been on a freeview movie channel, hob, first thing this morning. I cannot believe that TCM have ignored the dimpled centurion, it's very sad.

              "Dimpled centurion", James? You mean
              centenarian
              , I trust.
Unless it was an oblique reference to
              Spartacus
              !
I did hear that Kirk was honored on UK TV. Why there was nothing here I can't begin to fathomalthough in a few minutes one of his pre-star films,
              A Letter to Three Wives
, is coming on, one of my favorites. Back in July, when Olivia de Havilland turned 100, TCM made her their Star of the Month and ran almost all her movies, starting with her birthday on July 1. But nary a hint of Kirk, though his birthday was noted on the news and IMDb.
The old Kirk would've flown to TCM's headquarters in Atlanta and torn the joint apart!

We say centurion in this country when somebody hits the big 100, hob.
I would absolutely love to read your thoughts on the last election, and Trump's triumph of Mrs. Clinton. What a roller-coaster side show!

Centurion? Really? Never heard it used in that context. No, it's just centenarian over here. When they go to the loo, it's a centipede.
James, I have not watched one newscast, nor anything about the election, since election night. I still don't know all the specific results. For the very first time in my life, I cannot deal with politics, news, current events or anything beyond m own sphere. What this country has done to itself is beyond belief. Never had we had a more unqualified, dishonest, reckless imbecile in this office. This is the beginning of the unraveling of what was once the greatest nation on the face of the Earth and indeed the last best hope for mankind. We are about to enter a dark age of ignorance, bigotry and stupidity. There is nothing funny about any of it. I cannot bear to look at reality; so I've retreated into movies and other pursuits. Eventually I'll probably emerge from this self-imposed shell, but it will be months.
Seriously: please don't even raise the topic with me. I cannot tell you how immensely horrified and depressed I am.

Thanks, joystar. I think I'm all bayed out, but if I feel the need, I'll take you up on your offer.
I've actually wondered how Kirk Douglas, a lifelong Democrat, feels about the election held the year he turned 100. This is almost certainly the last presidential election, and last president, he'll ever see. Hell of a way to leave things.

I'm a couple of weeks late. But many happy returns to Kirk!
