She did a number of these photos with the same photographer. He dressed her up as various silver screen stars from the past. He even said she was the easiest person to work with, and she always gave everything she had for the camera.
I legitimately cannot recognize her in that photo, even knowing it's her!

I think it's because she generally comes across as very natural. Other than her signature blood red lipstick, she looked wholesome. She didn't overdo her eyes or her eyebrows. Changing her hair, whether colour or style, can be a bit of a shock. Changing her makeup to apply it very dark, shows how much it takes away from her natural beauty and rather, she's become a bit more of a canvas to create a new image. The super dark eyeshadow and tadpole skinny dark eyebrows which were long out of fashion, is such a shock to the system when we come to think of Marilyn Monroe.

I think that's quite interesting. It shows how many actresses, and possibly actors as well, owe their fame to a certain look at a certain time.
Possibly the photo is also a bit deceptive? It's probably quite easy to make someone up as someone else but something else again to capture the magic of the original as the film rolls - after all there were several actresses touted as 'The Next Marilyn Monroe' but one came close really.
I have always depended on the kindness of Strangers - and the bastards let me down!
