She nailed it in Boyhood. That last scene with her son is going to clinch it. Her character conveyed both vulnerability and strength simultaneously and believably, which is no small feat. This is her year.

I am ove16d0rjoyed that her beautiful performance has been doing so well through awards season so far, and I hope that she holds on all the way to the Oscars. It's very rare that such subtle, unshowy work makes it this far - as a rule Oscar-winners for supporting roles are flashy scene-stealers. Other than THAT scene, near the very end of the film, Arquette's work is quiet, honest and oh-so real, and all the more impactful for it. I'm not certain she can win the BAFTA but the SAG award should be an easy get, and that should be enough to clinch the Oscar.

Even before Boyhood, Patricia has done rather well at getting recognized for her work.
She got plenty of Emmy (winning once), SAG and Golden Globe nominations for her work on Medium which I always thought was very well-deserved recognition for an underrated and unshowy role.
Typically a role like that, of an earnest mom and wife who was legit getting psychic visions, would be written off as a joke so its quite wonderful that critics and peers appreciated the subtlety of her performance.
Medium was quite procedural in its format and often formulaic but I always loved that show, and never missed an episode. It had SO much heart. I still get sad sometimes thinking about how it ended. -

I liked Patricia in Medium. I didn't see her as an award-winning actress, but I liked her and the show. I haven't seen Boyhood yet, but I did see her new CSI show the other night because I like Patricia. I can't believe that she won an Oscar. She is not a great actress. I guess that I will have to edit this after seeing Patricia in her award-winning performance.
