Great performances in True Romance & Boardwalk Empire. I was generally happy for her Oscar win, then she managed to stick that foot in mouth.
As a man Patricia, I would gladly accept 10% of your salary for any of your last few jobs.
You lost me as a fan forever, and I'm guessing I'm not the only one. Shame, as I've always thought you were very talented and underrated. Now I don't care.
Woman absolutely earn just as much, and sometimes like in your case much much more than men. Stop whining, and enjoy that obscurity again as I won't watch anything else you do.
Note to future award winners, just say thank you to the film makers and people you love.
Save the big speeches about whatever injustice you hate for Twitter or your website.
Shunned for life. -

But her heart is good and it came from a good place, she never meant anything untoward with her statement.. I hardly doubt she cares either.
It was inappropriate and unwarranted and I don't care about her heart. It is no more 'special', than those that are grossly underpaid than her. She is a stupid twerp and my sentiments to the OP. I was happy for her too, until her rant. If she doesn't care, then that is her problem and she is nothing but a self-serving narcissist.

She had her speech written down on paper, so much for the heat of the moment.
Go watch Halle Berry on You Tube when she won her Oscar, that was pure emotion.
This was not only not ridiculous, what she said simply isn't true.
And OP, she isn't a fantastic actress, Cate Blanchett is a fantastic actress.
PA isn't a bad actress, but she isn't amazing by any means. -

She is a typical clueless rich angry liberal feminist Hollywood narcissist who does not know what she is talking about.

"She is a typical clueless rich angry liberal feminist Hollywood narcissist who does not know what she is talking about."
In other words, she's no different than every other 3rd wave feminist and quite a few 2nd wave feminists. -

What do you mean I can't give up or vilify someone because of one thing they say? Guess it's never happened in Hollywood before Mel Gibson, Jim Carrey being recent examples of talents who've stuck foot in mouth and have not recovered.
Another poster also mentioned, SHE WROTE IT DOWN. It wasn't in the heat of the moment. She had it planned. Even her thanks was generic. Look at Eddie Redmayne or Julianne Moore. Those were genuine. Patricia Arquette had a plan to push her cause on the entire world, despite the fact that NOBODY wanted to hear it.
People will argue the reaction from Oprah and Jennifer Lopez, but they are in fact two of the richest woman on earth. With Oprah having enough money to buy a moon somewhere.
I'm glad she doesn't care, as her pay has been ample enough to sustain the inevitable collapse of her income and demand. I'm very disappointed in her, but again she doesn't care. So no worries. My outrage is genuine, and so is the outrage from millions of her former fans. -

I just saw her backstage press conference.
I noticed she said the "issues" facing woman. But never said what these "issues" are. She failed to give one example or any detail.
It was all BS.
Yes, and the reaction of Oprah and Jennifer Lopez, who fly around on private jets, when is the last time either one was in a supermarket?
Arquette comes from an acting family, has she even ever head a "real job"?
Ever waited tables, or worked in retail? I highly doubt it. -

Well said Dr. Bill. It's amazing the insensitive and maniacal statements that come out of a person's mouth that has absolutely no right to complain about a single thing. And that whole Men gets paid more than Women argument has been debunked. She is an idiot.
Please Hollywood, do not ever consider remaking Rocky!!! -

I have been a fan for many many years. In fact I've had a nice poster of True Romance for over a decade now on my wall that came down the other night. Woman do make ample amounts of money, in many fields. Nothing is holding them back at all.
Please wake me when a woman can open a film on her own and get men to watch it. Examples of this recently are Jennifer Lawrence who deserves the big pay because she opened the Hunger Games franchise. Call me sexist all you want, this is truth. Woman don't make the same in Hollywood, because they don't bring in the box office. When they do, woman do get paid. Demi Moore was getting a 20 million dollar check during her heyday. Not sure how much bigger it needs to be in order to be equal. It has been equal for some time now.
Arquette has made millions making films/TV, and please remind me what film has she ever opened where the audience was there because of her. I don't think I've ever heard "Oooh the new Patricia Arquette film is out, I've got to see it.' from any human, male or female.
My reaction would be the same if Kevin Spacey mouthed off in the same fashion for men. Men and women are equally able to earn cash and be miserable on this planet, regardless of gender.
Here's another name JK Rowling. She's kinda doing well, with over a billion earned. I don't think the Harry Potter franchise was held back because she's a woman. I doubt anyone could claim she wasn't paid because of her gender. She got paid because the product she put out was solid, and everyone wanted to see it.
It's a tired argument. Believe what you want. While she may regain some of her female fans (though some women are mad too), she alienated the last remaining members of her male fans. Enjoy your spoils Patricia. I see a lifetime movie in your near future. -

Lol. You do realize J.K. Rowling has a first name (Joanne, the 'K' comes from Kathleen, a grandmother), which she changed to initials so people would not realize she is a female? Her publishers worried that boys would not want to read a book like Harry Potter, if they knew the books were penned by a female.
I am sure you are aware of the gender pay gaps in the entertainment industry, which were brought to light with the recent Sony hacks? In all fields, women are paid less than men. Doesn't matter if someone's salary is $10k/year or $1mil/episode, pay gaps are pay gaps.
Ignorance is so widespread, it's amazing -

Nobody is saying men don't earn more. We're saying women earn less due to lifestyle choices almost exclusively (although they are less likely to negotiate salary even on day 1). They take more time off from work when they have a kid which hurts their career advancement, they tend to take the jobs with better hours and better conditions, they travel less rather than driving to companies that will pay them more, they are less likely to work overtime, etc. There's tons of people out there saying this and have for years. Men give up quality of life to make more money because they know their roles are tied to their provider status. Men also tend to make more when they're married because they have far more social pressure to be the provider. The biggest argument against the pay gay is if companies can hire nothing but women and pay them less they would. This is not really news to a lot of people (even the people preaching these messages routinely are exposed for having women who earn less then men) but nobody will say anythingb68 because your career will be destroyed especially in the entertainment industry. Women are responsible for 90% of all household products and nobody wants to piss them off so they tell them what they want to hear.

I'm glad I can see the logic and reason in your post. That's more than I can say about a lot of these feminists or manginas who insist on keeping women on some pedestal of victimhood.
I swear. That's all have for power and strength today. They can't argue worth a damn so they resort to screaming, "WAH! WAH! WAH! Look what you did! You meanie men!" -

Give them all the power in the world and it will still come down to the same thing.they are insecure, excitable and act like children that need to be placated. I don't suppose I should put all women into the same box, as that is being narrow sighted; but from my experience, I don't ever recall meeting a female, that has commented that she 'actually' likes and enjoys being a woman. Or if they do comment on something about how they wouldn't ever want to be a man, it sounds phoney and disingenuous.

NO FILM would be successful or even interesting without the actresses cast in it.
Nonsense! It is the characters and the appeal of them and that is what makes the audience interested in them. Gender has nothing to do with it. A film doesn't need to have strong female characters in it, to leave an impression and vice versa. As it stands, most films will have actors of all genders and it would depend on the demographic target audience that the film is aimed at, over what slant it takes. Women are not adding that extra 'special' touch, anymore that men do and you WANT to think that they do. You are having a bias towards women and being sexist about men. Now, if I made a statement that a film would only work because of the male presence, women would be up in arms. Why is this different?
.her for wanting EQUALITY. basic human rights.
Arquette and women in the US and in many other developed western countries, do have EQUALITY and what are these basic human rights that you are referring to, that they lacking over men? Like Arquette, you don't even know what you are going on about and just want to join the bandwagon of female empowerment, by voicing something that holds no volume and doesn't exist.only in deluded mindsets. You are only dis-empowering yourself and other women, by carrying on as though females should have extra 'special' entitlements over men. Women are NO more 'precious' or 'special', than what men are.

zeligtony
, when a person opens a post with 'are you serious?', that is a clear indication, that they have avoided the essence of what was being said and have found some truth, which is being avoided. So by your reasoning, a movie is 'bad', if there are no 'strong' female characters. It depends on what the film is about twit. And 'bad', is a very black and white term. I did mention it works both ways. What is your definition of 'bad'? People have many tastes and a dense red blooded alpha male who only loves action films like 'RAMBO', may not care about the latest chick flick, like 'SEX AND THE CITY', which has women at it's forefront. Both types of films, can marginalize it's characters.
A female actor, will be paid what she is worth, depending on her box office draw and appeal. Same as a male. It would also depend on how much budget has been allocated and are stars willing to take a dip in pay, to do a project they like. Did Meryl Streep, get paid more her male co-stars in INTO THE WOODS? She was likely paid more than her female co-stars too. She got around $8mill for IT'S COMPLICATED and by the way she was encouraging Arquette, my heart just bleeds for how underpaid she is. There are always going to be wage differences and this inequality will affect both genders, depending on talents, skills and in all fields of occupation.
