John Carpenter Vs Wes Craven

John Carpenter all the way. He may have fallen off the wagon so to speak beginning in the 1990's, but his 70s and 80s stuff are so paramount that, imo, they trump even Craven's best stuff across decades. Scream, People Under the Stairs, ANoES, The Serpent and the Rainbow, all have nothing on Halloween, The Thing, Assault on Precinct 13, Escape from New York, I could go on.

Gotta give the nod to Carpenter. Assault on Precinct 13, Halloween, The Thing and In the Mouth of Madness are all-time favorites of mine. Craven only made two of my all-time favorite films (Last House on the Left and Hills Have Eyes).

I would honestly say that despite Carpenter's classic input, there are more Craven films that I enjoy watching over Carpenter's oeuvre so in this compare, would rate Craven.
Different styles and Craven started off gritty, went more polished, but I also find his films easier going. Carpenter is more of an intellectual headspace director.
Norman! What did you put in my tea?
