With Wes Craven, George Romero, and Tobe Hooper all dead, John Carpenter is basically the only significant horror director from the 1970's who's still with us.

I know he's busy with soundtracks and music but he really needs to do another film. I'd hate for him to end up like Romero with so many wasted years in his filmography.
Edit. Looking at Romero's filmography he had a gap between The Dark Half and Bruiser then nothing after Survival…around 15 years with no new films.
Carpenter has made one film in 20 years. -

It's possible that Carpenter just doesn't want to make another film. Moreover, if Carpenter did another movie, it would probably get a very limited theatrical release and be seen by a majority of people on various streaming services. Sadly, it could also be that Carpenter can't find anyone who'll give him some money to make one more movie.

I think you're right with the first point. I'd love to see another film from him but he seems healthy and happy making music. TBH he's probably made the right decision in what he wants to create, being happy in your work is key.

Cronenberg is finally set to do another movie called Crimes of the Future with Viggo Mortensen. It appears to be a remake of an earlier black & white student film by Cronenberg with the same title.
