I've being saying the same exact thing (on Tumblr, but apparently despite having a lot of followers on there none of them are casting directors or producers it would seem) she would totally own a villain role.
I don't think she's even gone so far as to be the antagonist in any film much less a legit bad ass villain. (I guess in House of Sand and Fog she could sort of be considered an antagonist, but that film was more or less dual protagonists with her and Kingsley's roles, and certainly not anything approaching a villain.
I think given some of the things she's said in interviews and just the state of the industry that it's likely she's never been offered such a role.
Hollywood has very few true female villains, women tend to get cast as damsels.
Jennifer would be good in both a fantasy villain type role, (comic book movie, or fairytale film) but also in more serious fare like a crime dramab68 I think might be an even better fit. I can see her as a serial killer or the big bad, like how awesome would something like the BBC show The Fall be but with Jennifer as the killer in a cat and mouse game with the protagonist detective.
