Sean Cunningham and Wes made "Last house on the left". Both went on to do Jason and freddy.

first of all bluefarmer lets get this out of the way.. youre definatley a cock!!! now, he is not a one hit wonder, spawning one of the greatest slasher villans and creating the scream franchise shows that, whether you like it or not. the guy has just lost his fight with cancer and your reaction is to post this useless unintelligent comment? big man aren't you!!! youre the lowest form of troll there is. I doubt you have or ever will have any impact on any form of culture let alone pop culture unlike this manb68. god speed wes craven, thank you for the nightmares.

I agree with this. He made one masterpiece, Nightmare. Scream relied on a gimmick and was far too slick and pretty to be scary. Last House is shocking but is so vile and vulgar it's nearly unwatchable. Everything else he did was average at best.
Not disrespecting the guy. He just passed so it's only natural to discuss his career. Should we be less than honest because he's dead?

If Nightmare is a true masterpiece to you, why did you only give it an 8?

Thats like saying, Einstein was over-rated all he did was invent the atom bomb.
i mean, Nightmare on Elm is a pretty friggin' huge deal in the world of cinema horror. not to mention. Last House on the Left, The Hills Have Eyes (both of which have been remade), Serpent and the Rainbow.
How many wonder hits have YOU achieved in your life? i love when people criticize other people who have done world famous things, by pointing out that they didn't do world famous things every single day of their lives. No matter how you chalk it up, he did an exponential more impressive body of work than you.

Youb68 just compared the greatest scientist ever to a mediocre director, do you expect to be taken seriously ?

You said Wes Craven isn't a big deal in horror because all he did was invent Nightmare on Elm, and my point is that Nightmare on Elm Street is like the biggest deal possible when it comes to horror.
And the fact that you left Hills Have Eyes and Last House on the Left off your list, leads me to believe you were unaware he did them, or unaware what those films even are, which in either case devalues your credentials regarding horror, anyway.

I really have to laugh on the odd occassion someone says Craven wasn't a master of horror.
He is the only guy to hit the genre big time twice.
Nightmare On Elm Street and Scream.
John Carpenter only really ever had Halloween.
Tobe Hooper only had Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
He created two huge horror icons, which is more than can be said for other directors of the time.

We don't care about feelings about his movies it's not about the final products it's about his work. He was the greatest horror director with John Carpenter. The way he directed horror movies was far superior to any other director of his time. Compare the directing from SCREAM 1 with SCREAM the tv series and you'll have it. He was a great director.

respect his work and try to understand the work of a director! The way he filmed, used lenses, camera work with the DP, direct his actors

He's better than John Carpenter, only two John carpenter movies are good, Halloween and the Thing that's all, Craven's movies are much more enjoyable and A nightmare on elm street is probably one of the greatest horror films of all time.

Halloween and The Thing are better than Elm St imho. All are classics.
