I've skimmed through these replies from over the last year, and I'm not at all surprised by Princess Bride, but I thought I'd see more Lady JanesI suppose the horror crowd that likes Saw isn't nearly the same group that goes for the historical dramabut I have to say, I fell in love with Cary Elwes in Lady Janeand probably his best moment of acting is when he's in locked up with his father and he asks Guilford if they let him see Janethe way he says "No" is so sweet and sad. I always loved it. I've been disappointed with so many of his movies through the years, but I still have a spot in my heart for him.

I have to add in that I love Lady Jane, as well. (It's actually on the top of my list near Saw, so I'm one of those rare people who likes a lot of crazy diverse stuff.) If more people were to see Lady Jane, I'm sure more people would love it, but it seems sort of an obscure film, unfortunately.
The "no" is heartbreaking. Guilford is really a touching and multi-layered character. He has moments of great strength and weakness and he still manages to be funny once in awhile. I don't think Cary gets enough chance to take on those types of roles.

Has anyone seen Oxford Blues, he is in it for a few minutes at different times. It's a strange film but Cary Elwes is actually hilarious in it. I watch it all the time because of him.

I love that movie, it's cheesy and dated but the Cary Elwes factor is fun. He is funny in that movieand has the strangest hair. Love it.
That was one of Cary's first films, and it was produced by his brother Cassian. Yay for nepotism!

                      for me

                      1. Princess Bride
                      2. Lady Jane
                      3. Another Country
                      4. The Crush
I don't like when he's the bad guy.
Lady Jane started it all for me back around 1989. Then The Princess Bride sealed his fate as my favorite actor.
Honestly, over the years, I was hoping for some more comedies or romantic comedies because the killer/slasher/bad guy thing just doesn't do it for me. 😞
                        But, I still luv him!

I would love to see those earlier films that the previous posters talked about (Another Country and Lady Jane) because they sound really good but the bad guy thing with him definitely does it for me. I would also love to see him as a main player in the next two SAW films as well! It is so hard to pick a favorite movie of his because all the ones I have seen are so good, it has to be a list, here goes:

                                1. Princess Bride (took me forever to see it and when I finally did I owned it)
                                2. Twister (love the accent and the overall appearance)
                                3. Liar Liar (two words, goof ball)
                                4. SAW (the movie that made me really notice him though I had seen him in others before this one, somethin' about that Dr. Gordon, hehe)
                                5. Kiss The Girls (just call me Mrs. Nick Ruskin, all-around great performance and the view isn't bad either!)
                                6. Ella Enchanted (great hair and he does sing "Shake Your Booty".gets me everytime!)
The list may change with the movies I see but for now this is where it is. Sorry it went so long, it is 3:30 in the morning after all, my brain just took off typing all of this. I shall take my leave now.

I've enjoyed his presence in Bram Stoker's Dracula, Kiss The Girls, Saw and Robin Hood: Men in Tights, but my favorite performance from Elwes is definitely as Ted Bundy in the tv movie The Riverman. Bruce Greenwood is technically the lead actor in that movie, and he is excellent as always, but Elwes' portrayal of Bundy just steals the whole movie for me. One of the best protrayals of a serial killer I have ever seen.
