Having seen Cary Elwes last night in
Georgia Rule
, I feel pretty sure that it's not age that's made his face look so bad, it's just a moderate amount of weight gain. He actually looks young for someone in his mid forties; but he's clearly one of those people who gain weight in their face quickly, so that he simply can't afford to be even a few pounds overweight if he wants his face to look good at all.
That said, I thought that in
Georgia Rule
his appearance was actually quite appropriate to his character of a self-absorbed, obnoxious, somewhat nerdy wealthy trial lawyer. I can see a person like that getting pudgy and not realizing or caring how off-putting his appearance was beginning to be. Perhaps Cary can rationalize this episode in his life as a Robert De Niro
Raging Bull
-style exercise in weight gain for a part, and proceed to slim down so as to once again become the exemplar of yuppie suavity and stylishness that he used to be. -

So you think someone with some extra weight is offensive looking? You must get in a lather just walking around in public and seeing all the chubs daring to show their fat little faces. -

i'm still in love with him, even the older him. robin hood:men in tights is still one of my all time favorite movies- and although, true, he's changed a lot what do you expect? men don't try to perserve their youth like women do.

hmm.. Can't deny that I think he looks hot no matter what.. Fit, chubby, bad style or good style. He always sweeps my feet away!! And come on; there's tons of other male actors, who's gained waight too(more even) and has begun to look badder. Cary still got that boyish smirk and enchanting eyes.. And I actually quite like it when his body is a little soft
You're my hero. I agree with everything you said, especially the "boyish mark and enchanting eyes." Couldn't have said it better myself. -

Ok, first, aside from the people who disagreed with the original poster, are you BLIND?! Cary Elwes is a great looking man, (And I agree with the poster who said 'he still had a boyish smirk and enchanting eyes') and if you're so shallow that a few pounds forces you to turn away from anything involving him, shame on you. He's an excellent, mature, acting veteran, and you're too blind to see that.

I don't want to join in on the bashing but =X. He was sOoOoOo gorgeous in Princess Bride and Robin Hood, and I looked him up to see what he was up to these days.. and, OMG! Pretty disheartening. He's not ugly, but I regarded him as extremely beautiful at his peak, so it's just sad to see that's not the case anymore.
Maybe if he shed a few pounds it would change? I don't know, though.. it's not just the weight. His eyes used to have this beautiful sparkle to them. It's somehow gone?
