aren't usually that good (and I'm not counting The Conversation, American Graffiti and Apoc Now because he was younger then)…
when Ford became a hit with Star Wars, he had a Steve McQueen persona, and like McQueen, they are excellent at playing leading heroes, guys who are both tough and vulnerable but the toughness wins out in the end…
when either one attempted a character role, even when that role was in the lead (for McQueen it was The Reivers, Enemy of the People, and others), it was awkward and the acting or performance was obvious wherein their famous roles seem like they weren't acting at all…
Ford is this way in my eyes… when he attempts playing old cranky guys, which he is in real life, it seems like he's trying too hard…
HF is better as the hero, and it's amazing he's kept at it for so long with two franchises that he wanted so badly to escape from but…
when the shoes fit…
