I felt bad for her. I liked her. Back then there weren't many black child stars that made movies for teens. So naturally I liked the movies she was in.
I could understand how fame can be overwhelming if you just aren't the type of person who likes that much attention. -

Tatum was the one with the drug problem…she had a very messed up childhood.
Kristy stopped working when her girlfriend died, actress Elisabeth Brooks (from
The Howling
). Her PR people probably used the bipolar excuse at the time, because Kristy wasn't 'out' as a lesbian then, even though it was pretty much well-known most of her adult career. Her bipolar disorder was something she battled since her late teens.
After the death of Elisabeth Brooks, she wanted a private life, but taught acting classes and did some voice work.
She had gained weight and probably didn't want to be in front of the camera.

But yeah, working in front of the camera you have to stay fit and looking your best always. So I get it. Voice work is a lot more popular now. Like I saw that Martin Sheen does a lot of voice work.
Some celebrities do have private lives though. Most of them do. I don't know why others have such a hard time with it. Her sexuality shouldn't even be a factor but that's reality. I'm thankful that I still am attracted to men. -

Seann William Scott IK has been rumored to be gay due to kissing 3 different guys in 3 different movies, but that's all acting. And besides, he's married to some designer.

They were similar in both playing the same character, Addie Pray - Tatum did the film
Paper Moon
and Jodie did the TV show based on the film, which got cancelled during it's first season.
In an interview at the time, Tatum stressed her dislike for Jodie and said she'd like to avoid ever working with her if possible.
The other connection was the film,
Pretty Baby- Polly Pratt, who worked with Tatum on the film,
Paper Moon
wrote the screenplay for
Pretty Baby
with Tatum in mind, but Tatum's dad, Ryan O'Neal, refused to allow her to do the film…he didn't want her playing a child proustite.
Jodie was offered the role later but she turned it down due to having already played a proustite in
Taxi Driver
. and didn't want to become typecast as one.
Many others tried out for the role, including Diane Lane, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Kristy McNichol, but Brooke Shields got the part.
