Yes, Ellen DeGeneres has no career at all, no successful chat show etc. Jodie's been acting since she was very young, maybe she's had enough and her sexuality has nothing to do with it.

OMGthe OP said ACTING career. After Ellen came out in the 90s, it did hurt her career for a while before she found success with her talk show.

It's hard to tell if it has made a difference in Jodie's case. Ever since the mid 90's she has been slowing down her amount of work as an actress. I think the reasons for this are varied but motherhood and focusing on directing are probably the main reasons.
Honestly though I don't think 'coming out' has made much of a difference for her and where she wants her career to go. Everyone was pretty clued in about Jodie and I don't think anyone looks at her any different now it's confirmed.

Damage Ellen Degeneres? She's one of the biggest television stars.
As for Jodie, she's focusing on directing now. I don't think she's interested in acting. She's done it for 50 years, won two Oscars, and made tons of money. She has nothing left to prove in that area. I get the sense her ambition now is to direct her masterpiece, but she has to get the right material for that first.

She does have things left to prove in that area. She said many times she's eager to act in her 60s and 70s and to play characters that age. She also wants to challenge herself and play characters that require some kind of particular skill, like learning to play an instrument, or something like that. But the truth is that, as you said, she's indeed focusing on directing. I think it will take her some time to get back to the big screen again but in the meantime I'm anxious to enjoy her work behind the camera as well.

He desire to step away from acting and focus more on directing is the reason her acting career slowed down, not her sexual orientation.

This. I don't think Jodie's sexual ori5b4entation has had any effect whatsoever upon her career as an actress. She seems to prefer working as a director and producer to acting right now. Looking back at her career, she has never really gravitated towards the types of roles in which she'd play a love interest or wife. Think about her biggest roles: The Accused, Contact, Flightplan, Panic Room, The Silence of the Lambs, and even Nell. While she comes closest to a romance in Contact, even there she's ultimately her own person and the relationship is used to frame a religion vs science debate versus acting as a key motivation for her character. I don't think her orientation would have affected her selection of roles, at least later in her career. In the eighties, when people were more conservative, it might have.
No, I think Ms Foster likes where she's at right now. My only regret is that she's one of my very favorite actresses, one who often portrays strong women, and I'd dearly love to see her in many more films.
In space, no one can hear you scream. On IMDB, we can hear you but we just don't give a crap.

And as for 'the woman from Sex and the City', Cynthia Nixon she has delivered one of the great performances of the year as Emily Dickerson in A Quiet Passion.
Being gay and out is going to have less and less impact on acting careers as time marches on

Females already have very short careers as it is..
They get between 16 - 28 or so to get the best roles.. Between 30 - 45 the roles are kind of like.. meh,,, after 45 they get more roles.
Why is it? It's just the way hollywood is,, a female is either a beautiful young significant o5b4ther, or an older lady in a marriage..
