Having Bipolar is frequently combined with alcoholism. I an sure he would not hurt anyone like most people with this diagnosis. The drunken manic rants stem from being paranoid. So of course he is going to say crazy stuff when recorded. It is a horrible disease that he seems to know have a hold on.

Alcoholism IS NOT A DISEASE. This is just a cop-out. I have been around alcoholics and choleric attitudes my whole life, due to their drinking. They drink because they are bored and weak and haven't woken up. That said, this is who they are and if this is what they choose to do, that is their stuff to contend with. I see Gibson as conflicted, due to his religious beliefs as well and he is about the dualistic nature of life and being.
Don't eat the whole ones! Those are for the guests. -

He said he was bipolar not manic depressive. Sure addiction might not be a disease but bi-polar, ocd, schizophrenia are. He is not a good or nice person but a talented one. Having even an obsession or like of bloody images is part of the disorder. No if you like SAW you are not bipolar. It is part of the whole long test though. Drinking is a big part of dealing with mental illness. Beside being very expensive to get the right treatment + help + medicine for any severe mental illness. Look at the prison population. So Mel Gibson is doing great for what he can pay for most people just go to jail. Not that mentally ill people are criminals. It is just the acting out, misunderstanding, drugs, and drink that will do them in. He might not be an angel but he is doing pretty well. I hope this clears the situation up.
