Did they deserve it?

Alas, no. I have a hard time feeling bad for people who destroy themselves through substance abuse. Also, driving under the influence is both reckless and dangerous because you're not just putting your own life in danger; you're also endangering the lives of other people.
You've seen Guy Standeven in something because the man was in everything. -

Everyone feels bad for Ryan Dunn, one of the Jackass members, who killed himself and his passenger while he was DUI.
I don't get it why there is all this sympathy for him who was being a jackass for driving drunk and none at all for the passenger who is the real victim here.

When ANYONE gets behind a wheel KNOWING they are impaired, and KNOWING they have had alcohol, drugs, meds, or TEXTING, they do so KNOWING they will potentially cause harm to themselves or others. So I do not feel sorry for them.

This may seem crazy, but you can feel bad for all those involved.
It's tragic that Heche had a problem that led to her reckless behavior/death, and it sucks that people had their property ****ed up.
The two aren't mutually excluse.

Anne's family was lucky in a way. It only took her a week to die. My daughter had a TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) from her accident and died 200+ days later.
About the same time there was an even more horrendous accident in L.A…a red-light runner who killed six. The most horrendous part? She survived!
